Growing up I never realized quite how different eating frog legs really was. While I was certainly exposed to typical American fare, a lot of our food came from the land, including a variety of wild animals and fish. To me they were a delicacy enjoyed only a few times a year, to my schoolmates this was unheard of, and to my father and grandfather, this was just a way of life….

Maple Glazed Salmon
This recipe was originally published in 2012 as one of the first recipes to appear on Sweet Love & Ginger (then American Ginger Diaries, I think?). Since then it has remained a family favorite, and one of the only recipes that Chuck repeatedly asks for. I mean if he has to eat seafood it might as well have maple syrup on, it right? It’s the Vermonter in him I suppose….
White Fish Piccata
I love a good piccata in the early spring. The light and bright flavor just sings spring to me, and since lemons are just ebbing out of season it’s a great time to take advantage of that.
For this recipe, I used Pike a white fish that can be found in our fresh waters and also in the ocean (Ocean Pike). I have, however, made this recipe with a few other fish, such as tilapia, bass, or trout, so that’s why that title up there is for white fish. It’s transferable this way….

I’m starting to feel my age. Not in the sense that I feel feeble and tired, though I’m pretty tired of this shoulder injury, but I’m feeling it on an intellectual/emotional level. We’ve got summer interns in the office now and nothing makes you feel old like having a couple cocky young things almost 10 years younger than you hanging around.
