This was our first full month as parents, and while Chuck had to go back to work I still got to stay home with the little guy. Unfortunately, that’s about to end since I go back to work next week. Not gonna lie, I’m a little afraid of it. I mean how is my little guy going to make it through the day without me (read how am I going to make it through). I’m betting there’s going to be some waterworks.
Anwhoodles, here’s what we have been up to in the past month.
The Chickens:
Eggs! So. Many. Eggs. Like seriously, we have been handing them off to family and friends to the best of our ability. We are going to start selling them to help balance out the stock and the cost. I knew 8 chickens meant 8 eggs a day (56 a week!), but what I didn’t think was that all the chickens would actually survive to this point. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad that they did, but now we have to figure out what to do with the excess.
The Gardens:
Mother nature never ceases to amaze me! Even with minimal amounts of time, attention, and bad weather, my garden is producing like gangbusters. Most of the tomatoes are still waiting to change color, but we have had lots of peas, beans, onions, garlic, potatoes, and lots of herbs. Its been great to just run out and grab a few things for dinner without much thought to a plan, because with a new baby, who has time for that?

The Social Calendar:
Not a whole lot was planned, but we’ve had a lot of guests in and out to meet the little guy. We had our first mommy, daddy date also. For this, we went to a movie and had a really amazing dinner. We went to Lansing Farm to have a completely farm to table dinner on the actual farm, put on by two really amazing local chefs. The meal was fabulous and I can’t wait to go back with friends.
The Podcast:
This month’s episode features a friend of a friend through Chrystina named Roaa. As our first non-blogger/influencer guest, it was really awesome to hear about her party hosting style. We talked about her ongoing pancake Sundays as well as hosting in her home country of Egypt. This episode is filled with so much good info and a whole lot of love. Hear the whole thing over on the site.
Looking Forward:
Coming up in September, is the major harvest season, the beginning of hunting season, and going back to work. It’s our busiest time of year and I imagine that this year will be no different. Fingers crossed that we make it through alive!
Stats:
Spent on Groceries in January: $267.04– This is the least we’ve spent in a month thus fa and I’m stoked. I think the majority of this is thanks to the garden, but I’m also doing my best to clean out the freezers so there that too.
